Writing
It is important for students to regularly practise writing, including the creation of narrative texts or stories. The Scholastic Story Starters website allows students to randomly generate story prompts which can be the basis of a piece of creative writing. Students may also wish to use dice games such as Rory's Story Cubes to help generate ideas for narrative writing.
Students should understand the criteria for assessing both narrative writing and persuasive writing. Further information and examples of work samples can be viewed for narrative writing and persuasive writing.
A website called 'The Most Dangerous Writing App' encourages students to write narrative texts online under time limits and helps students avoid 'writer's block'.
The Pobble website has a new story starter based on an image for each day of the year. This can be used by students to help with creative writing as the website provides a brief start to the story that students then complete.
